Infused olive oil is a delicious treat to have around the house for all types of uses. I love to pick fresh basil from our garden for infusing olive oil, and it's incredible how different the infusion of Thai Basil is from Italian Basil. I give thanks to the garlic lords when my grocery store is carrying the yummy hard neck garlic with purple striping on the skins because that infusion is best to dip bread in. Rosemary olive oil is oh-so-good on roasted potatoes, in pasta, or drizzled on top of some grilled fish. But have you ever infused your olive oil with CBD? It may not be as challenging as you think to make it yourself, and all you need is a few items you probably already have around the kitchen (plus hemp flower).
Over the years, many have used CBD for pain relief, reducing inflammation, treating epilepsy, and battling depression and anxiety. The cannabinoid does this by interacting with our body's endocannabinoid system, a system that helps our body reach homeostasis. Our body produces its own endocannabinoids, neurotransmitters that bind with our endocannabinoid system to help regulate everyday bodily functions like appetite, sleep, pain control, immune response, and the processing of our emotions. While the research around CBD is still ongoing, and there are still many discoveries to be made to better understand this cannabinoid, what we do know is CBD has a meaningful relationship with our body, one that has been in human history for centuries.
Using high-quality raw hemp flower for an olive oil infusion will give you both CBD and all of those magnificent terpenes. And using hemp flower that is grown without the use of pesticides is an absolute must for your health. With a bit of time, some moments of close monitoring, and a reliable candy thermometer, you can make CBD-infused olive oil for all kinds of uses, from everyday meals to a topical applied directly to the skin.
What You'll Need:
· Olive Oil
· (2) Sterilized Jars
· Candy Thermometer
· Medium-Large Pot
Step 1: Start by decarboxylating your hemp flower.
1. Grind the desired amount of hemp flower into a crumbly texture. I suggest you start with 3-4 grams of hemp flower, then move up in dosage depending on your individual preference. It's good to start your dosage low and increase it slow to find the sweet spot that's perfect for you.
2. Place your ground hemp flower on a parchment-lined baking sheet. (Cover the baking sheet with foil if you want to preserve more of the terpenes.)
3. Bake in the oven at 240 degrees F for about 25 minutes, tossing halfway through the baking time (at about 12-13 minutes).
Step 2: Once you've decarboxylated your hemp flower, grab your olive oil of choice (we recommend using a high-quality organic olive oil) and measure 1 cup.
Step 3: Place all of your decarboxylated hemp flower into a sterilized jar and pour your 1 cup of olive oil on top. Seal the jar tightly and give it a good shake.
Step 4: Bring a pot of water to a 200 degrees F boil. Make sure your pot is big enough to submerge your jar where it reaches the top line of the olive oil mixture. Use a candy thermometer here to ensure it doesn't get too hot. Let the water boil for a couple of minutes after it reaches 200 degrees F so you can adjust the heat setting if the temperature is still rising. It's essential to keep the water at a steady 200 degrees F.
Step 5: Submerge the jar in the water once your water reaches a steady 200 degrees F. Boil at this temp for about 2 hours.
Step 6: After two hours, remove the jar (Careful! The jar will be hot!) and place it somewhere safe to cool. Once it has cooled enough for you to handle, strain the infused olive oil into another sterilized jar.
Our Raspberry Crème hemp flower would be great to infuse olive oil with if you're aiming for a sour and floral tang. On the other hand, our Half Baked Hemp Flower is a great option if you're more into an herby-lemon flavored infusion. We care about the health of our consumers and want them to have the best experience with our hemp flower. That's why all of Yanasi Farms' products are grown in a climate-controlled environment to ensure consistency and why we never use pesticides at any point in the cultivation process.
Pro Tip: Try mixing other herbs with your hemp flower when infusing your olive oil to make something truly unique!
